Foundation
The Ethiopian Geoscience and Mineral Engineering Association (EGMEA) is the national society for Geosciences. It was founded on April 28, 1992 in Addis Ababa. The current list of EGMEA members runs to over 250 and consists of all geoscientists and geological engineers drawn from organizations as well as academic and research institutions.

EGMEA aspires to be one of the leading professional association in the country, a guardian for professional excellence and ethics; a powerhouse in support of exploration development and utilisation of earth resources of Ethiopia.
Our Objective
The principal objectives of EGMEA are:
- To develop and promote Geoscience education and collaborative research
- To establish close relationship among geoscientists and other professionals engaged in geoscience- related fields so as to increase the role of geoscience in national development
- To establish and strengthen links with other societies, national and international which pursue similar aims
- Facilitate the link between geoscience educting universities with the sector industries in order to promote knowledge driven sector development and growth.
- Promote the awareness on and knowledge of earth sciences and associted desciplines to the society at large
- Encourage and cultivate young geoscientists
- Promot professional dialogue
- Promote professional proficiency and ethical standard of the professionals
